Updated English Homework

Help spread this information. It's from sharepoint. Download the word document that Mrs Tina Tang has uploaded onto her sharepoint announcement in our 3-3 class portal.

1) Read up on novels and factual books on topics of interest, at least 4. The only condition is that all books must be written in English. Write a 150 word summary of the main ideas/experiences/problems/message etc. and then write a reflection on the author's point of view and assumptions.

2) Prepare a journal in the form of an A5 exercise book. All the information about that is in the document.

3) Commonwealth essays to be emailed to Mrs Tang in a soft copy by 20th December 2008. STRICTLY stick to your word count of 1200-1500 words for Class B and 1400-1750 words for Class A.

4) When the English book "A Sense Of Belonging" becomes available from the bookshop in December, purchase it and read each story in the book and write a summary + reflection in an A5 exercise book.

This is just a summary of what Mrs Tang put in the document on sharepoint. Please read the full one which gives you the details.

In addition to the previous post...

Mr Daniel Yong would also like to thank the four guys and everyone who had helped in one way or another, it's great effort regardless of the result.

Yep, it may not have been good news but we do have many people to thank. Thank you for all those who supported us, helped out at our pushcart, patronised it, even just send messages to encourage us if you couldn't make it. Your support, no matter how insignificant it seems, is still of great help to us. =)

Pushcart...Apologies?

I am deeply embarrassed and sorry to post this, but unfortunately, our team did not win any single prize in the Pushcart competition.

I have two things to say...just two things..

Number 1, SORRY to all of you for pinning your high hopes on us. We have sort of let you down and destroyed the legacy that was set by last year's team.

Number 2, THANK YOU all for coming down to support. Over the past 2 days, MANY of you came down to support us, about half the class. Thank you for your support, especially Colin, Joseph, Hong Yi and the rest who stayed especially long to help us.

Nothing more...will keep you updated for more good news...

P.S. We are setting up a real store with a real website...coming up soon. We plan to bring our business to the next level and explore even further. Anyone who wants to join us in our venture, you are welcome. :)

Pushcart Update

Ok guys...thank you all for the support today. Especially for those choir boys who helped us, THANK YOU.

But, we still have half a day more to go...just to inform you guys, today our sales was around $780...quite a bit, not quite a bit, cos the next stall next to us selling clocks made more than 1k, I think...

So we still need your HELP. We have lots of preorders to make and customers are getting impatient by the minute. So we need ALL of your help for the final leg of the race.

Please help us, and I promise you in less than 20 hours time, you will see good news posted on this blog.

For those interested, please come from 8am-3pm. We are Pushcart NUmber 3, the one nearest Macdonalds, directly opposite GNC pharmacy and Burger King at Toa Payoh HDB Hub.

Once again, thank you all, but please help us for the final round.

P.S. Thank you teachers for all that stuffing of fast food. XD. About 4-5 teachers bought food for us...but all JUNK food, but THANK YOU...for those delicious (but unhealthy) food.

:-)

National Pushcart Challenge

Ok guys....here's the update for our pushcart:

We have been through a lot of screw ups and shit in preparation for tomorrow's and the day after tomorrow's competition. We invested in a lot of money $500 est., and what is worse is Murphy's Law has gone correct for us till now; we hope that things will turn out better. Murphy Law is: ANYTHING THAT CAN GO WRONG WILL GO WRONG.

From print shop fail to print out poster to screw up preorders, etc...

But what is the point of saying all this? Well, I sincerely hope that you guys can come down and support us by buying our T shirts and badges. Well, I know some of you cannot, but may I request that you keep us in your PRAYERS? We have been through quite a lot of "bad luck", but we place our trust in GOD, regardless of what religion we may be. So no matter if you are Christian, Buddhist or freetinker, just remember to pray that we will have a smooth and fruitful two day journey and that we may emerge victorious.

We seriously need those divine help or more things might turn out wrong...Hopefully not.

We appreciate if you can come down to buy from us, or just to help us along with the running of the store.

Remember; ONE FOR ALL, ALL FOR ONE. If we win, we PROMISE that we will treat you guys on a scale you have never seen before (in school) that is. Please help us and we thank all for their generous support.

Hope that I may be able to post good news on this blog in less than 48 hours when we know who is the National Pushcart Challenge Champion.

May GOD be with us, and may the FORCE (not farce) be with us!

:)

FINAL ANNOUNCEMENTS FOR TOMORROW

Important instructions for all those taking the O Level Chinese paper tomorrow.

Please report to school outside the canteen by 7.15am latest. Please bring along your NRIC/Passport (avoid using EZ link card), Entry Proof, Stationary and dictionary (certified by the teacher using a stamp or the electronic ones WITH SPARE BATTERIES). If you lost your entry proof, check sharepoint CLASS PORTAL for details on how to get a replacement copy.

You will all take the exams in either 3-3 or 3-4 classroom, but majority will be in the 3-3 classroom. For your info, if your register number is from 1061 to 1090, it should be in the 3-3 classroom.

On the day itself, place all electronic devices in your bag in SILENT MODE or SWITCHED OFF. Only exceptions are certified electronic dictionaries. Follow all instructions by invigilators. For the barcode, peel off the TOP part of the barcode and paste in on the bottom right hand corner of your answer script. Do not write anything on the cover of the answer script.

Please keep your phones on at all times before the examination in case any teachers have to contact you for urgent matters. Call Mr Suah (or Joseph) if you have any matters eg. you will be late because of some traffic jam, traffic accident (TOUCH WOOD), bad weather etc. or if you have forgotten to bring any important documents. For Singaporeans and PRs, it's better to just bring your NRIC. For foreigners, bring passport.

Now for the exam itself. Remember all the techniques that have been taught during the chinese intensive lessons. Things like pointing out key words in comprehension questions, understanding both the surface and in-depth meaning of the passage, contextual clues, matching of vocabulary phrases, idioms etc. Know the format for the essays and letter writing. Be flexible. The expository essay is a good alternative if the newspaper report seems difficult. The expository essay is typically on a current affairs topic, so whatever you  have studied in your 热门话题 will still apply. If you're very confident, you could do the narrative because if you write it well, you will get more credit than if you wrote a very good newspaper report, just because 80% of the students are going to write the newspaper report.

Time management is important, but I doubt any of you have problems with it. Hence, I shall not elaborate here.

Sleep early, drink chicken essence (if you don't mind the salty taste), take Vitamin C, study SMART and relax. This is the final lap. It's now or never. Go for it. Mr Suah has faith in all of you. =D

Holidays Update 2

Lots of goodies uploaded on sharepoint. There's a sample answer key (very comprehensive) to the Literature paper on the level page. It applies to everyone since the Elective paper is the same as the Pure paper. Mr Suah has also uploaded the answers to the comprehension practices you got last week. Finally, there's a briefing document for the Chinese O Levels. IMPORTANT: Please check that you have your entry proof with you Ask Mr Tan if you don't have.

For chinese, remember to do practice and study. Remember you have to do BOTH. There are 2 practice papers given out as essay practices during CL intensive in term 4. Those 2 trial papers are important practices complete with answer keys too. Revise the 热门话题资料,应用文格式,报章报道格式 and whatever stuff you've got. Most importantly, believe in yourself and make the final leap for success. This is the last lap before our next challenge next year. The battle (FYE) is over, the war (CL O level) is here and the APOLCALYPSE (O Level 2009) will come soon.
