Higher Music format...

Hey guys.
This post only applies to the Music students.
Those who wish to take Higher Music, you might want to take a look at the information from this website: http://www.scribd.com/doc/3587696/Higher-Music-6055-2009?from_related_doc=1
Consider your Majors and Minors based on the information given. And take a look at the respective criteria for Performance, Composition and Essay. All that is required can be found inside. If you cannot download it in PDF format, you can find me for it.
Thanks... and wish everyone in 3-3 all the best! =D
GOGOGO!!!
Ok so you've done the first science paper of the exam season, Physics. I've heard that many of you aren't too happy about how it went for you. All I can say is that I believe most of you have tried your best for the paper, just that the 1% luck in the 99% hardwork and 1% luck formula wasn't there, or maybe you went a bit too panicky. Frankly, this paper was slightly harder than the MYE. Rest assured, Mr Yong knows that you have tried your best. (Don't worry about the Seoul Garden thing. Worry about your other exams first).

So coming next is CHINESE on THURSDAY (it may be a mock exam but that doesn't mean you can slack) and FRIDAY, SOCIAL STUDIES on THURSDAY and ADDITIONAL MATHEMATICS on FRIDAY.

Homework to do (for practice sake. If you are genuinely unable to finish, don't push yourself too hard.)
A MATHS SET D E and F. (Okay, it may take you up to 6 hours to complete all this stuff, but try to do some TONIGHT)
Compile E Lit Notes and Quotations (We could do a class collaborative effort for this)
SOCIAL STUDIES (Memorise key points of essays and their descriptions)

If any of you have notes to share, please feel free to distribute them among the class.

Physics

You guys want some summary notes...you got it right here....what Mr Yong gave me but didn't give you all....so just wanna share it....class spirit yea.....

Go to this link to download it all....

http://www.sendspace.com/file/xdrrsk
Mrs Long will probably ask the class to stay back so that she can go through A Maths Set C/D tomorrow. Make yourself available at that time slot.

REMINDER FOR PHYSICS:
Please bring a calculator (two if you're afraid of the battery running out), protector, compasses, 2B pencils, 30cm Ruler, curved ruler. Basically your ordinary stationary plus entire mathematical set. Who knows, there may be a question on drawing circular waves that warrants the use of a compass.

Note: Following Mr Tan's warning on "no scrap paper with you in exam hall", I don't know it's either paranoid or necessary to remove the black sheet of explanatory paper that comes with the SHARP calculators. But you may want to do that in case...

Tuesday, September 23, 2008

Some of you have stated that you would not be able to finish the latest English Assignment given out today on the Mindmap + Discursive Essay. I've spoken to Mr Tan about this and he says that if you really can't finish it on time, you need not pass it up. However, you have to try your best to complete that.

Ok so continue mugging please. Biology MCQ test tomorrow, the final one. Exams also coming VERY soon, which is next week.

FYEs near...Timers into ACTION!!!

5 more days and counting. To those of you peeps who are still stuck in fantasy world; this is the final fight....second last one before end of the year. There is Chinese O level of course, but let's just wake up ok???

As you can see, there are like 4 timers around the blog...to WAKE YOURSELF UP THAT FYEs ARE ROUND THE CORNER!!!!!

MUG MAN....MAKE SURE MR YONG TREATS US TO SEOUL GARDEN!!!!

FOR SEOUL GARDEN.....

Tests and annoucements

One more week to the examinations! This week is very crucial so you better make the best out of it.

You will be having THREE physics tests this week. Monday's one is on the entire unit on heat, Tuesday is the definition test and Wednesday is the mechanics test. Mug hard for these tests and don't complain. Mr Yong's already doing you a favour by helping you to revise this way.

A Maths test is coming on Monday. It is not counted but it's still a good gauge of your performance so far. I am not sure of which chapters are tested though. (Maybe 1 to 5? Teddynuts, go edit this part)

The third instalment of the Biology MCQ Test which is the hardest of the three will be on THURSDAY. Excretion questions will come out for sure.

HOMEWORK:

1. Finish up the last two essays (one on analysis other on narrative) and submit to Mr Tan's pigeonhole OR me ASAP.

2. Comprehension on New York by TUESDAY. No need to hand in.

3. Mathematics Paper Set B. Really sorry, some of your papers are with me. Zong Da, Jia Da, Brandon, Min En, Qing Shan and Nathan.

4. Complete all outstanding A Maths assignments by this week.

5. The two biology worksheets on excretion and respiration. I don't think Ms Saras will mark them so she will be going through the worksheets during one of the lessons this week.

6. Chemistry Mock Papers. Do at your own pace and check answers.

So there you have it. Mug well and you won't regret it.

PS. Something unpleasant happened earlier this weekend. For sensitivity reasons I won't be revealing it here but I bet some of you already know.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE FORUM IS NOT FOR LEISURE STUFF...

Check it out, register and start posting your questions. I will invite the teachers to visit the forums often...

Mr Edmund Yong..if you are reading this, please check it out too. Thanks

Quick Oral Pointers

1) Read at a comfortable pace and articulate. Pronounce consonants carefully and accurately.

2) You need to be expressive in your reading, especially in dialogue. Only when you do this can you get a high A for oral.

3) For picture discussion, you must not only describe but also make inferences. Common questions to ask yourself include "what could this guy be thinking?" "what will happen after this picture is taken" and "why is this person doing this?". Don't forget the essential 5Ws and 1H.

4) For conversation, you must be specific. Use examples where necessary and elaborate. If you get stuck, try to use personal experiences to answer the question. It will keep your mouth busy.

5) Use the 10 minutes of preparation time very wisely. 10 minutes is a lot if you manage it well. Ideally spend no more than 3 minutes on the passage, 5 minutes on the picture and 2 minutes thinking about the conversation possible questions.

English Oral Prep & Announcements

Note to all of you guys:
English Oral is on Thursday, 2.30pm (I THINK, i'm using my memory). Check with benedict for your waiting rooms and examination rooms because i practically forgot. I only know that register 2 - 13 are waiting in 1-4 and taking the exam in 1-5, and register number 1 is taking the exam in another class i think. (My memory's not up to scratch. Sorry =X)

Okay these guidelines may sound like common sense or some gibberish, but you should remember those lest you get panicky.

1) Practice practice practice! Even if you're an eloquent speaker, you will still benefit somehow from practice. You can get those assessment books from popular if you haven't done so. One book is by longman which focuses on technique and strategies (less on past year papers and practices) which has an audio CD bundled with it (SGD7.50) while the other one that Mr Tan uses to give us the mock exams. Get the one that your prefer (I doubt you need both seriously).

2) The topics that can be tested in oral are quite broad and in some cases, difficult to discuss about. This will pose less of a problem if you read a lot, especially in current affairs, as your knowledge of many issues will be quite sufficient. You can also refer to the so-called Four Year Series book and look through the 40 topics that came out in the past 4 years. It should be pretty sufficient.

3) As with Chinese Oral. the emphasis other than on your performance in the exam is the impression that you have on the teacher. Things like manners, greeting the teacher, maintaining eye-contact. The longman book has advice on that.

That's just my two or three cents worth. Good luck for oral.

Okay, that's just for oral. Now to announcements.

English comprehension on New York. Do it and bring to class during the next English lesson. Mr Tan will probably just go through.

GEOGRAPHY: COASTS is not tested for FYE! So for now, you should just have to revise everything from the beginning of the year. No worries about learning a new topic. (Refer to sharepoint if you don't believe)

Chinese: Please just bring your white booklet for every Chinese lesson. You don't want to end up outside the classroom...

Biology: Biology MCQ Test 2 and Respiration Structured Test on WEDNESDAY. Please see Ms Saras for your biology essays if you are supposed to and have not done so yet, before wednesday.

Physics: Light + Waves Test on TUESDAY. Fail this and you get tons of homework and remedials.

Maths: E Maths test on Friday on ANYTHING that can come up for FYE. Don't forget to revise trigo!

Just a rumour...
When Ivan confronted Ms Saras today...
Oh mistake, when Ms Saras confronted Ivan today, she asked Ivan if he mugged for tomorrow's test.
So there might be a bio test tomorrow. None of us remembered, so it might be a suprise test. Or maybe she was just tricking Ivan. Or maybe she mixed up 3-3 with 3-2.
So anyway, there might be a bio test tomorrow. Just to tell you all...

Like I said, MIGHT have.

Reminders

Ok I know the going is starting to get tough already this term. Remember to complete your homework on time. Especially English Journal entries. I don't have any extra copies of the articles now, so you'd need to photocopy from your friends. Please hand up the Journal Entries to me tomorrow OR place them in Mr Tan's pigeonhole. I won't be chasing you guys anymore for English homework, so take responsibility and do it.

That said, remember that exams are coming. Please study hard and do Ten Year Series for any applicable subjects every now and then, especially the three sciences. Manage your time well and find some time to relax each day (it's important!).

Just a short reminder

Physics SPA Assessment on Monday. 10% of SA2 marks. Not to be taken lightly.

See the tagbox on the side and sharepoint for latest announcements.

Study hard everyone! =P

I'll allow you to make edits and add in any stuff that I have missed out. There will be a second instalment on Mensuration and Trigonometry. Although not explicitly tested, questions that require stuff like cosine rule and calculation of volume and area have come out before. The second part has been uploaded already. Interesting Facts about our Classmates

Hi Guys...just some interesting facts to know about some of our classmates. This is a new series by which every week, we will feature some classmate of ours on here. No offensive stuff though. This week is Leong Jiawei. Next week will be Ivan...

About this week's feature, go to http://www.nhg.com.sg/nhg_01_pressRelease2002_22march.asp

Try to guess who Dr Leong Yew Meng is.......I bet you should guess by now that he is Leong Jiawei's father. Read the article.....its proof that his father is a dam "tua" (high ranking) official in our society. Have fun....and no offense meant....
